Windows Insider, in this February update – the Snipping Tool adds shape annotation capabilities to easily mark up screenshots and integrates CoPilot explanations to help understand Notepad logs, code, and text selections.

● Snipping Tool

In this Snipping Tool (Version 11.2401.32.0) update, we’ve added the ability to draw shapes on your screenshot captures. It allows you to quickly annotate screenshots by adding rectangles, ovals, lines, and arrows.

To use it, select the New Shape button in the toolbar and choose the shape you want (you can also change the fill or outline color if you want). Then click and drag on your image to create the shape. You can resize, move, or change the color before clicking away from the shape. the shape will merge with your image but can still be erased or undone.

● Notepad

An update to Notepad (version 11.2401.25.0) adds a useful feature to help annotate the content in your text files. With “Explain with CoPilot“, you can ask CoPilot in Windows to provide a detailed explanation of log files, code, or any text selection directly within Notepad.

To try it, highlight text, right-click, and choose “Explain with CoPilot” or use the new Ctrl + E keyboard shortcut. CoPilot will then produce an in-depth explanation in a side panel. This requires CoPilot to be enabled in Windows.

Please note that some users may not see this Notepad feature immediately due to a known issue. This will take some time. Many times a problem has been seen in managing storage spaces on Windows, you can fix it.

Windows Insiders will see better CoPilot support on major updates to Snipping Tool and Notepad. Please test these new capabilities and share feedback through the Feedback Hub under the appropriate app categories. As always, Windows Insiders are used to your participation and input in improving the Windows experience. If you have any queries then please leave your queries in the comment section.
