Microsoft is starting to prepare Windows 11 version 23H2 users for the final transition to the new 24H2 version. Some users have got hints as well as a new features build has also been released for 23H2.
Microsoft gave New advice to regular users for Windows 11
It is quite a standard practice that Microsoft regularly phases out older Windows versions to ensure that users have the latest security features and improvements. They have started advising users to use the new version 24H2 from the early months at the beginning of the new year. But it is going to look quite fast or forcefully on this in the coming time.
Support updates will be given to some of these versions further. Support for business and education users (Enterprise and Education Edition) will be given till November 10, 2026. But at the same time, support for regular Windows 11 users (Home and Pro Edition) will end on November 11, 2025.
After 23H2 “end of life” we will stop receiving security updates, bug fixes for software issues, technical support from Microsoft, and new features and improvements to protect against these new threats.
A recent survey by PhantomofEarth on Twitter (now X) shows that Microsoft is already assessing user interest in moving to the new 24H2 version. This is especially important for Windows Insiders (beta testers) who help Microsoft identify and fix issues before the general release.
Beta Insiders: Have you switched to 24H2 CUs (26120) yet, or are you sticking with 23H2 CUs (22635) for now?

For regular users, there is no immediate rush to upgrade right now. But you still have more than 8 months to go. Education and Enterprise have more than 1 year to go. However, it’s a good idea to start thinking about an upgrade.
Features of 23H2 New Insider Update KB5052094
The new build 22631 update of Windows 11 23H2 brings several important improvements, including:
- File management: New taskbar file sharing and backup controls, as well as fixes for cloud file access.
- Desktop experience: Improved Windows Spotlight and lock screen features with improved background image information.
- User accessibility: Updated Narrator with new shortcuts for better web navigation and content browsing.
- Fixed OpenSSH connection issues.
- Improved cloud thumbnail consistency.
- Increased system stability.
- Updated gaming features with Game Pass referrals.
- Regional update for Paraguay and EEA users.
Microsoft is usually rolling out major updates for the new version 24H2 gradually to ensure stability. They usually detect if your device is ready for the upgrade and wait until they are confident that it will work well on your system. Until then we will not implement it.
